About us
The Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES) was originally established in 1957 as the Association of International Education, Japan (AIEJ). Since then, AIEJ has served as a central institution for accepting and supporting international students.
On April 1, 2004, AIEJ consolidated its operations with the Japan Scholarship Foundation, the Center for Domestic and Foreign Students, the International Students Institute, and the Kansai International Students Institute. As a result, the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) was established, and AIEJ was restructured as the Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES).
On January 4, 2012, following reforms to the public interest corporation system, JEES transitioned to a public interest incorporated foundation and further broadened its range of support programs for both Japanese and international students.
